G'Day from New Zealand,
I have this 1981 BMW 520, USA spec. apparently unique as it has a 6cyl. engine exclusively for the USA market.
I need help to id as much about it as I can.
The engine is stamped - 20 6V A.
What does this tell any of you about its spec.
Currently it has a warped head, but I have been told that this can be bolted to a strong back and barbequed to straighten and then a light skim if necessary and true up the cam alignment.
Can I apply a little performance tuning to this engine?
Perhaps a mild cam grind?
What else?
Is this a USA model that had emission control, resulting in overheating and poor gas consumption. Gas here is $NZ1.06/litre. About $US2.11/US gallon.
I will be greatful for every piece of information that you knowledgable Bimmer types can provide.
This car (automobile) could be a rare species in the deep southern hemisphere.
Thanks Guys.

Thankyou Ron,
Yes it does have a fibre cam belt, the engine is a M20, 6cyl. 2000cc., about 122 cu. in. and about the same HP.
Carburated and normally aspirated.
You sure have a choice of wheels to drive.
I will check out first fives.
Keep in touch and thanks again.
