1986 325e Piston Rings?/ Head gasket?

Hey guys> I have an 86 325e that blew the head gasket. Something I don't understand is where it happened. There's no visual evidence of leakage or damage to the gasket. However oil was running down the exhaust side of the engine when it was last driven. The next day I tried to start it and wouldn't start. It sounded like it wanted to but no.

When the car was driven last. There was a sudden loss of power and smoke coming out the back. I couldn't tell if it was out the exhaust or just burning on the exhaust manifold because I was on the freeway. When I pulled off she died.

So I pulled off the head and.... Like I said.... no visible signs of leakage across the gasket. But before I pulled it, I did a compression check which showed ( O psi ) from cylinders 2 through 5. Cyl.# 1 had 95 and Cyl.# 6 had 115. There is some very slight visible scoring on a couple of the cylinders with zero compression.

Could this be a sign of blown/burned rings or did I possibly crack the cylinder head? The car didn't over heat. But has been in the "Red Zone" on the temp gauge before. Changed the T- stat and expansion tank cap previously and had no problems for about a month. Then two days ago....[:(] Boom....

Please!!! Any help would be very greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

It is possible that you have done your piston rings on cylinders 2 through 5, before pulling the head you should have also done a leak down test to determine weather the problem is the valve seals in the head or piston rings.

What does the underside of the head look like? All carbon up? while its off send it away to get all pritty'd up by a reputable workshop and tell them to run a pressure test on the head aswell.
motor still in the chassis?
I was gunna say pull the sump off and maybe pull one of the pistons to visually inspect.
