the other day i checked my air filter and it was partially covered in motor oils that had drippied from the afm. oil is coming from the throttle body i have no clue what the heck is going on here. i have cleaned it with some intake cleaner and replaced the filter. any ideas as to what happened there. thank you [scratch]

Yea it happens - more so on the older cars than the newer. It is when you turn your car off, oil vapors enter the intake via the crank ventilation system. Best you can do is clean it now and then, sounds like your air filter might be really old or for some reason there is an odd amount of oil making its way to the intake.

It's the reason the new BMW's have a charcoal air emissions filter in ADDITION to the normal air filter.

vapors

thanks , you are correct the air filter was horribly old from looking at. i've had it now a couple days. it has approx 207 and some change i dont know how long it's been doing it so i will have to keep my eye on it . anyway to correct or lessen this from at least getting worst considering the age and milage she runs great.

How many miles on the car? This issue usually gets worse with higher miles due to progressively increasing oil blow-by and hence increasing crankcase vapor emissions.

Best thing you can do is just clean out the throttle body like Eric said.
