1990 325i pops out of 4th gear

I'm looking at buying a 90 325i. The owner states that while driving, the manual shifter will pop out of 4th gear. He said he can hold the shifter in 4th.

Is this a known issue?

It's been mentioned before, don't know how common the problem actually is though. In general, popping out of gear is usually a pretty serious problem and will require a new transmission or a rebuild.

Well, I bought it. The clutch and tranny feel fine except for shifting into 4th. It wants to jump out as I let the clutch out. I'll just shift 3rd to 5th and have a 4 speed for the time being.

So far I haven't encounter it on my car.But my friend said,his 90 325i seems just to be like that kind of condition and it seems that his BMW cv joint produces strange noise.It is in the transmission problem.

CV joints are not in the transmission.

I don't think he was talking about the cv's being IN the transmission but....

I dunno....
