1990 525 air bag disable to allow steering wheel removal

I believe that I need to replace my service indicator batteries.
My 1990 525 vin# WBAHC1318LBC93224 has 50k miles on it with original
AA batteries. (I bought the car new in 1990).

Tach & speedometer went out but came back.The radio and clock cluster readouts
for distance to go etc are dead. My wipers died out along with power window
failure .

Everything else works fine.

I need to know how to disable the airbag in order to pull the steering wheel
and it's cover to get at the SI board.

Am I on the right track?

Ted, I am not sure if you need to remove the steering wheel or not. Get a Bentley manual for your car, they are worth it and contain tons of good information. Good luck and keep us informed.

You have to remove the steering wheel as far as I know. I believe they say to disconnect the battery for 45 minutes to 1 hour then you can remove the airbag.
