I have a 2000 540i auto. When the temp is around 27-30 degrees the car barely wants to run. It misses and wont idle. It even has died a few times. These symptoms wont completely disappear until a fully warmed up and after the car has been run for a long time. I am new to BMW's and MAF style injection systems. Could the MAF of IAT be malfunctioning? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bryan

I know why it ran bad that day. I left town for a week and left when it was 75, and it was 32 that early morning duing startup.

However it still seems to be missing during really cold warmups. Any ideas?

My dad used to have an E34 530i and every now and then (esp. when it was cold) it would idle really roughly, like it was running on only 6 cylinders, which was probably the case. Each time a little blip of the throttle would help the engine clear its throat and we just put it down to a few sticky valves or something like that. In any case, the problem would disappear once the engine was running for a minute or two.

Other than that, I would just do a google search for your problem and see what comes up. It's probably a common issue with the M60 V8.

Get the check engine light checked. Every car just needs time to warm up. In those freezing temperatures I would defintely expect some sort of rough idle where the car has to rev upa dn down a bit in order to help itself warm up faster.
