Hi All,

This is my first post. I am looking at a 2001 Z3 3.0 manual transmission that looks brand new with all books and records with 22500 miles. The factory warranty has expired due to time not miles. I looked at an extended warranty from Warranty Direct, but it is $2100 dollars for 2years/25000miles with a $100 deductible. Thats a lot of money.

I have heard that if something breaks on these cars it is very expensive to repair. I would appreciate any advise, as you are the owner experts.

Don't do it man. I am not a Z3 expert (own a regular 3 series) but with 25000 + 22500 miles on the car, you SHOULD not see any big maintenance issues. And if you should encounter a problem on the car, 2100 + 100 buck should be more than sufficient. So don't.
But that's just my 2 cents. See what Big Daddy thinks......

I agree with Dutch. The extended warranty at the quoted cost is way too much for what you are likely to encounter. At worst, you may have an electrical glitch like a window motor, but the engine and tranny should not be a problem unless you thrash the crap out of it at the track. Even then, you would have to make some big mistakes. I have an '05 3.0 that I've autocrossed every month for that last year and haven't had so much as a squeak! But, as advised, see what Big Daddy thinks...

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys, and I concur with both of you. Way too much for a two year warranty, you would be better off putting the $2100 dollars in the bank and saving it for future repairs. I have a 98 M roadster with 52000 miles on her, and granted I do a lot of my own work, but the car has needed nothing other than routine items, oil, filters, plugs, rotors and brakes. That's three votes in favor of telling the extended warranty guy to take a hike! Save your money and enjoy your car!
