Would appreciate any feedback regarding the 2004 530i. I have owned one for three months.
Ever since the third week of owning it, I began to notice three constant noises while driving the car. The first one is like a constant drop of water, the second like a paper crumbling, the third like a spring-like sound. The noises can be heard at any speed and they seem to come from the rear part of the vehicle.

I have taken it in numerous occassions for service. They have verified the suspension, changed the front and rear stabilization bars and nothing. The noises are still there. Are these noises normal?

Any of you 5 series drivers out there: does your car present any noises?

Also, the car presents a slight vibration that can be felt on the steering wheel and the brake and gas pedal while the car is in drive but idle at a stop light. I have been told this is normal. Is it?

Sounds almost like an ABS type of noise. If the censor is bad, the ABS could turn on even w/out touching the brake. Also could be the traction control system going wacky.

The vibration could be caused by a bad motor mount, unbalanced flywheel (which is what it sounds like), etc. Hm, maybe your tranny is having problems...

1 more thing... maybe a fuel pump?

Hope you figure it out.

I, too, am having strange noises with my 2004 530i. Mine are more like "creaking" noises that come from my seat and the body. It doesn't happen all the time, but happens about half of the time that I am driving my car. It sounds like body roll/torquing noise and I have never had this type of noise in any car that I've ever owned, whether it be a BMW, Jaguar, 300 ZX, Buick, Jeep, whatever! It's driving me crazy. Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

Re: 530i noises

Well if you own a 2004 5301 sport package like I do, BMW North America Technicians say its the fabulous sport suspension in this model. It is ridiculous but for the amount of money you pay for this car, I would have never expected to have these creeking noises. Its like a door or a piece of the car is going to fall off. The solution, turn up your radio.

By the way, I also own a 2000 VW Passat V6-4motion and it has absolutely no noises.

No Noises

I have a 2004 530i with the Sport Package and have never heard any of the noises you mention (even when driving on rough roads).

That is ridiculous!! I, too, have the sport package and I'm not going to stand for that. I don't believe that everyone with the sport package has a creaking car. If they do, then this car is not worth $50K and I will raise hell with BMW. For this kind of money, I expect a car to be manufactured to higher standards than a Hyundai!!

I have had my 530i with Sport Package for a few months now and I have had NO issues with the vehicle other than the airbag warning light that came on once and was handled by the dealership. Sometimes some of the structural re-enforcement bars that run throughout the body pop their welds and scrape and creak and this is something that NO ONE would see on a purley visual inspection. The quality of the cars is good, I would have some one check the rigity bars (not sure what they call them) and see if one might have popped its rivits. Just an idea.

I have had my 530 for amost two months and had no noises. Love that smooth engine!

The car seems to be very well made. I have been a VW, Land Rover and BMW owner and can honestly say I believe BMW makes a great car, in spite of the fact that the styling has me wondering what happened to that great "drivers" car attitude they used to employ.

Still like my E46 3 series.

How will you raise hell at BMW?

BMW is a company that does not care about their customers.

Lastly, Hyundai has some pretty decent standards...

The car is nice drives great and all but the noises are unacceptable for the price. Those of you with the sports package who have not heard the noises try turning the steering wheel slowly left and right while you drive the car. You will hear the noises coming from the rear of the car, specifically from the right back door. In addition, the back seat makes noises as well. The noises are stronger when there is no one riding in the back.

As for BMW, they could care less. I have raised hell. Their response: "there is no defect in the car. The noises are perfectly normal." They are also very aware of the back seat noises and they say it is due to the plastic components in the seat.

This is my first and last "ultimate driving machine".

Can't blame you, the only way to get a company like BMW to listen is to let your car-buying $$$ do the talking. By the way, you can always sell the car if you're not happy with it.

What's really wonderful is how BMW knows of defects/nuisances and doesn't give a crap about abating them. Clearly a company that needs a "saturday night massacre" in it's Customer Service Department. [boxface]

[bash]

So, I raised these issues with my BMW dealer and they lubricated all 4 doors. The noises have now gone away. It has been a little over a month since they did this and I have experienced no creaking noises from any of the doors/body. Hope this helps.

I have creaking noises on the door panels, I thought it was because I lowered the car, but I gues it is because the way BMW built the car

I love the car, but as stated earlier in the thread, BMW's customer service after the car is sold, SUCKS
