Hi All,

As of Dec24 we are proud members of M3 family and here comes our first question. Our car is equipped with BMW assist which - based on the information available on the internet - is not compatible with BMW bluetooth kit. HOEWEVER - the car came with the card listing not only our CDMA phone passcode and phone number (which - btw - can be used to receive (not send) calls while in the car) but also passcode for bluetooth.

Now - what can we do in order to get this BT running. For the past 4 days we were unable to figure this out. Sales folks from local dealer said that we would need BMW BT kit and that the passcode is for that kit - which is BS since the kit would have its own passcode. So - where is the truth? Do we have BT in the car or not?

Thanks

r2d2,

to get bluetooth running, you have to go to your local dealership and purchase the accessories, either have them install it or yourself. and then buy a bluetooth compatible phone. (if you install it yourself you still have to have bmw dealer to program and code the module to the vehicle) to activate the phone to the car.

i have installed plenty of bluetooth phones and sirius satellite radios.

This may not apply to US cars as they seem to come with option 640 as standard ("phone prep" = factory installed wiring loom), but in other markets (i.e. mine!) you need to make sure that you order this option, otherwise when you take you car apart to install this kit, you'll find nothing to connect it to.

i'm pretty sure the wiring loom can't be retro-fitted (but not certain - does anybody know?)

cheers,
Adam

Only if your BMW dealer determines that your installation has affected what you are trying to get repaired! [?|]

Personally, I believe that I would pay for the install, that way the Bluetooth should be warrantied.
