No..... I don't see this happening.... They pretty much tuned the engine to put out what it's worth. They might be doing what they did with the performance package for the 330's which would increase the hp from 225 to 235 maybe that's what you heard... Unless they build a new engine the 3.0L is staying in its power range.

Well i've just heard this in many forums, as well as through one dealer. Maybe it is a rebuild, but definately rumors of a new 3.0L coming out...

Yes that's possible, a new 3.0L engine by BMW maybe... modding the current one or tuning it for more than 10hp doesn't seem feasible. Just remember there will always be rumors.

Till then enjoy your current engines. [driving]

It better happen or BMW may be in trouble given the performance others are introducing. We need to look into this because I was actually expecting a bigger HP gain to 270 but don’t remember where I got that from.

If BMW manages to give 333hp to a 3.2L engine, a new 3.0L can certainly have 270hp.

I agree, it should be somewhere close. Check this out from Edmunds.com

Toyota will offer a fully warranted TRD supercharger that raises horsepower to an even 300, while shaving "more than an additional second" off the 0-60 time. Handling should also be impressive, as Toyota claims the X-Runner can pull off 0.9g of lateral acceleration on the skid pad.

And keep in mind this is a Toyota Tacom truck!

PS-The Honda Acord is a 3.0 240 HP I think. BMW can beat this I would hope.

if that's the case as you say, then BMW better come out w/ a new engine. i somehow can't see them competing in the market segment w/ the current horse power figures w/ price premium they commend. altho i think that it's the M engine that's maxed out w/ tuning, not the 3.0.. but the engine has been around a while now hasn't it?

yes HP isn't everything, and with the zhp and 235 horses, they are competitive w/ the 280 hp G35 (depending on who you ask..) but w/ everyone else upping their antes, w/ lower prices, BMW better shape up.

if i would make a prediction: 3er is coming up for a new lift, and seems with every new gen, they introduce bigger engines, from 2.5 I(not V)6 to 2.8 then to 3.0 from the good ole E36 to E46. if the M's getting a 400 hp engine, regular 3er should still be around the 100 hp gap right? [;)] now a 300 hp 3er would make me consider trading my baby in.. just maybe [:p]

edit: oops, total brain fart.. on the V-6 vs I-6 as ghost, so kindly pointed out.. thanks

The Japanese car makers are really giving the Germans a run for their money. I hope Germany wakes up and really gives us something to drool over.

That would be nice, but costly. My dealer told me that the new 3 is out in November as a 2005, then I hear in forums that its only going to come out in 2006. Basically we have to wait and see I guess...

My lease is up soon and have no idea what to do.

The Japanese cars will NEVER have the performance that a BMW has. Straight line speed? Hell a scooter is fast in a straight line. Put that 400 hp supra that Toyota came out with on some the "twisties" and see how fast it gets "twisted" around a tree. HP AND performance is what BMW is known for. Why is everyone so scared that BMW is going to collapse in the wake of the Ricer invasion? If people want "fast, cheap" cars they buy an Asian mobile...if people want an automobile that has been time tested and proven performer whilst being a "luxery" auto....they buy a BIMMER. I know that I RARELY get passed on the Autobahn by ANY cars...let alone an Asian Mobile. I have been passed by a series of M Bimmers and a couple of Porches....never by a Honda, Lexus, Acura, Toyota, Mitsubitchy or Hyundai. I Cruise at 130 MPH (where traffic allows) No ricer car can compete at that speed for any length of distance. I am not just biased toward BMW. Mercedes and as much as I hate them Volvo's also are WAY better built quality cars than Asian Mobiles. When was the last ime that an Asian Mobile won the the Lemans 24 hr? Why? Quality='s Endurance. Not opinion...FACT

I totally understand what you are saying Tool Fan but I think 185 HP in a 5 series, or even a 3 series for that matter is sad. Agreed that BMW offers outstanding performance but I don’t think winding road performance always makes up for a line of Accords or Toyotas waiting to pass a BMW on the on ramp.

At 35,000 for a 325, and 43-45,000 for a 525 a little more power can be reasonable expected at this time.

I brought this up at the dealer... They said BMW will have incentives and warranty features to stay ahead of the competition for 2005. Pretty overconfident if you ask me...

Although not with the 3.0l engine, the next generation version of this engin will have hp in the range (Or greater) as you stated. Wouldn't you know it... I can't find the article where I read about this change. I believe that the change will be in spring of '05. It was in a recent Autoweek, I believe.

My delaer told me of this change, as well, & said that it will be offered in the '05 5 series, & probably the 3 series, as well.

Ok, maybe this is reaching....I was told by an AC Schnitzer rep that a performance upgrade chip for my 530i would add 70 hp's that brings my 225hp to 295hp then with performance exhaust and intakes and all that other crap another 25- 30 hp's so I could feesably put 325hp at the wheels with the right upgrades. Just a chip mind you.....Maybe this JA just wants almost 5k euro from me just for the the engine upgrades (does not include body kit parts) or maybe it is true....I cannot find anything to either confirm or prove false this guys claims. If y'all (Brian) can confirm this on your end in the U.S. please post it.
