Hello all. I was planning to place an order in the next month for delivery of a 2005 530i in April. However, two dealers already told me that they are allocating production for 2006 models for delivery in March/April. Can anyone confirm or deny this? It seems very early for 06's to be coming out in April.....

So basically I was getting great lease rates on '05's, and now everything is being thrown out the window cuz they are saying I can only get an '06 in April. And of course, they will be pricier on leases, purely cuz of the rates and residuals..

From what I've heard, the new engines for the 525 and 530 are coming out in the spring, so yes they are using that change to jump to the 2006 model. 2005 model will be short lived on the 525 and 530. If you're looking at the 530, you'll want to wait for that new engine anyway...

The only reason I wouldn't want to wait is that they are giving really good deals on current 530's right now....Much better than anything you'd get on a new engine 5.

Are these new engines petrol or deisel. I am just taking delivery of a 525d and my colleague has a 530d and I doubt you can improve these much?

I knew it!

Hello, new to this forum.

I really have the urge to get rid of my '02 3 series coupe asap. It handles great, but is just too small, is a little too harsh for midwest roads, and is starting to feel a little old. But I'm faced with several problems, one of which you've pointed out (and I've been trying to find info on):

1. The new 3 series won't be in US dealer's hands for 1-2 more months; and even so, demand will be high at first, which means limited supply. But what if I like it just as much as the 5-that would be better for me because it's cheaper.

2. Since they developed the new engine, I knew it wouldn't be long before they put it in the 5, so who would want one with the old engine

3. I had an X5 as a loaner for a couple days and though it was a great alternative to the 5 series in the land of SUV's, but it too is at the end of it's life cycle and will be obsolete soon

4. I like gimmicks, so am interested in the keyless start feature, but apparently that won't be ready until this fall.

There's nothing I can do about any of these things except wait until later this year. Pretty frustrating.

The interesting thing is that I just can't seem to find any other car brands that interest me. I have been a car nut my whole life, so I know the details of every car on the road. Audi's are good buck lack the cache, Mercedes are good but offer very few manual transmissions, all Infiniti's are ugly and have cheap interiors, Acura's are FWD, and Lexus IS never seemed to be a luxury car and the new GS has a plain, derivative looking interior. None of those brands excite me. Oh-and the new art and science Cadillac's - ugly as sin.

If you don't want to wait, you can order one. I ordered a 530i and it rolled off the assembly line on 3/9 and per the BMW rep it will arrive in 4 weeks. The 2006 has new engine and they dropped the sports pkg by $1000, but the base price went up slightly. Adaptive w/Xenon is now standard as well.

Interesting

Thanks.

Were you able to get a good deal or did they stiff you because it's new? I'd like to get close to dealer invoice. I know with American cars that's easy, but doubt I'll have the same luck with BMW.

If you check the 2005 on Edmunds, you'll see that most get about $1300 below MSRP. For a MSRP of $55665, others are paying $54365. So I figure $1000 on the 2006 wasn't a bad deal at this point.
