3.0 oil capacity info

hello all, I've come across a few discrepencies having to do with the amount of oil in a 3.0. My owners manual states 6.9 quarts but its at the full mark on the dipstick with 6 quarts. I measured my dipstick and its 23 inches from end to end. Anyone with a 3.0 experiencing the same.

Did you just replace a filter? If so you need to start the car to fill the oil filter canister than check the stick. My 98 M roadster also uses 6.9, I use the full 7 quarts of oil.

I replaced the filter and added 6 quarts of oil. Started the car and let it idle for a few minutes while I checked for leaks. Turned the engine off, waited ten minutes and checked the dipstick and it showed full to the highest marking. I just thought it was odd cause I had one more quart to add but according to the dipstick the engin had the max. I double checked the manual and it stated 6.9 quarts. The reason i gave the length of the dipstick is cause I bought the car used and thought maybe it has the wrong one in it hence the discrepency.

It very well may have. My roadster takes the 7 quarts and reads just a hair above the full line. Interesting?
