well guys, found this wacky set up today,
it was mounted onto a 318iS US model.

looks like a home made intake manifold, webber carb and holley afpr.
guy never finished project at it was not properly bolted down.

just thinking out loud here, but, what if this mods were implemented, say ...

- this thing or a 6 cyl version of it had ports for injectors.
- then leave afm potentiometer board wired but not regulating air flow.
- somehow connect tps to carb.
- run carburator dry so it would act as a afm.

too cookoo ?

318IS never had that motor. Carbeurated motors don't need a throttle position sensors. That engine is an M10 not an M42. I'm not sure what's so out of place? Looks like the engine bay of an early 80's 318.

Thats an interesting Intake Manifold for the M10. Someone new what they were doing when they made that. I bet that intake manifold was made by someone like Korman or whoever back in the 1970's for the 2002's. That intake manifold could be worth some money to the right person. Be great for an old 2002 car.

I dont know about doing all those wierd conversions you were talking about. Be easier to just get a big Weber carb like a 38/38 for that engine and intake manifold. If you want a better flow AFM just convert one off an M30 engine to your car. Just gotta swap circuit boards, and re-plumb the air filter and intake tubes.

epj3, you are correct, it's a m10 engine in a rebadged car. it actually had US metal bumpers.

fount it on a local Pick A Part junk yard, i don't have a 4 banger to install it to, but could not let it go to waste just like that.

my cars are both 87's 325iC,

calling IE and see if they may want it. or maybe swap it for aset of shorty headers [:o)]
