318i rear disc conversion

How difficult would it be to convert my 1985 318i to rear disc? What would be involved and about how much would it cost?

Would I just have to replace the axle shafts with those from a 325? Has anyone done this?

Check out www.roadfly.org and www.e30tech.com forums. I dont think anyone here will know. But, I doubt the axle shafts are different. More than likely you'll have to replace the whole trailing arm, which contains the hub and everything (like the caliper mount)

Ah taht sucks the whole trailing arm contains the hub and caliper mounts. That is going to make it a pain in the a$$. Maybe just look into a universal rear brake kit, might be cheaper in the long run.

You dont use rear brakes that muich anyways, like 80% of your stopping power comes from the front. I dont think its really worth the cost and time to convert the rears into disc. But thats just my opinion. But it does look more "cool" with rear discs on my 325.

I would invest the time and money elsewhere. Like you say the rears only do 20% of the braking anyway.
