Hi guys,

I seem to be getting very poor economy from my 330d auto. Dealers have no idea why, it's had a few EGR valves replaced and 2 new air mass meters as well. Seems to be very somkey under hard acceleration (seen cleaner exhaust from a 20 year old London taxi).

Any ideas?

Many thanks chaps,

John

something us americans dont have and probably never will because there are so many dumbasses who think those engines are only good in semis and nothing else. i.e. 330 diesel.
the reason it smokes alot during acceleration is diesels are always smokey. is there any hesitation during acceleration? is it possible that the injector pump is out of time?

A friend that I work with who used to be a diesel mechanic tells me that an overabundance of black carbon smoke means the motor is burning rich, and usually needs an injection pump re-timing, if not a complete rebuild. Not very cheap, but it'll usually help out the fuel economy a bit.

What exactly is a 330d?
As mentioned, not (currently) available in the US, but basically its the same fun, but more cost efficient motoring:-

220bhp
445lb/ft torque
0-60 sub 8 secs
>50mpg
and all out of a 'Station Wagon' (Touring)

In a country where 'Gas' (Diesel/Petrol) is the equivilent of $7.50/gallon, you do the math .....!
