why do you hate the 540i it the fastest non m-power car in the 5 range and a very nice car fast with out the lesser powered bmw's like the 520i,525i,530i, 540i and the 520d and 530d the m5 would not be made thay would not have money to develop the m range the motor on the m5 cost around 10 million to develop I know what your saying the 540i is not a m5 but it still a very fine car

i think whats happened is that someone (who'll remain nameless unless you look at the first post) has gotten sick and tired of people saying that the 540i is BETTER than the M5 because of this that and the other. usually its somthing along the lines of well the 540i is faster because its engine generates this ammount of tourque for this weight and tuning is better blah blah blah.
What I'm worried about is that some guy is going to buy an E60 530 take it to Dinan and then tell the world that he is quicker than an M5 cause he is newer and he has the Chip.
This whole 540/M5 discussion is like comparing F1 cars. They are all F1 cars and no sports car in the world could live with a Minardi. But the only way a Minardi will get past a Ferrari, or Williams , or McLaren would be for the latter cars to break down.
Thus a 540 is a hell of a lot better than a VW but it ain't an M5.

I got my 911 (996) figures from the porsche website, so i guess they are trustworthy. same is valid for the modena.
For the M5 i checked several pages including the leading german car magazine and they all state 5.3. where does your 4.8 come from? i'm really curious cause what i hate the most is one car, but different numbers and you don't know which one is the right.
for the 540i, my bad, i mixed that up with a figur i saw for 50-75 acceleration.
so not all my figures were way off, only one. and what does it matter? it is still the slowest in the whole pack [fake] (slow btw, sounds like an insult to that car doesn't it?

First of all...that "guy from Chicago" that M-Punk heard from, is talking thru' his asshole. He obviously doesn't know his facts, hasn't driven anything better, or thinks others are stupid.
So. why is everybody arguing over an ignorant comment from a nobody?
I drive a 540i (second one now) and I know it's fast, but not that fast. Especially these days, when you just wanna compare acceleration and hp. new cars are packing them in so much so that the 540i will soon be left behind. That's when I will look for another car!
