Hi, There is a 1987 325 2dr. 5 speed for sale up the rode for $2,000 and I dont know if it is a good deal or not for one the guy has his paper all messed up he is saying it is a 325is with tinted windows, a rear spoiler, and a few other things that just arent right. The interior is in awesome condition. The paper says in only has 95,000 miles. It is burgandy with lots of fading on the hood and trunk. The windshield is cracked all along the bottom and you can see all the windows need new weather stripping. Thats about it do you think that this car is a good deal? This would be my first car and i would like to do a somewhat restoration get it painted etc.

Thanks for the help/input.

Alex I do no think they made a 325is in 87. Either way at 2k it is in the ballpark for value. If it only has 95k on her that is a good thing and increases the value. At that age the fading of the paint is not a big deal, nor is the weather stripping. Just take into consideration your going to want a paint job and new weather stripping some day. What transmission does it have? Also consider the price of a new windshield as that will be your first need. Have you considered offering him like $1500 cash? Everyone has some wiggle room! good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the input. I will have about $2500 by the end of this summer so we'll see what happens. I have heard this BMW has been for sale for over a year now so if it is still for sale about half way through the summer I will make him an offer. If not we will see what other bmws come up. I'll let you know what happens.

As always with used cars, ask the seller if you can take it to get an independent check by your mechanic, or in NZ we have places that specialise in pre-purchase checks on vehicles - I am sure you must have something similar in the states. If possible, one that specialises in BMW's is a good bet.

Is it an import? It may have had the speedo wound back if the kms don't match the condition.

And yes, there was a 325iS in '87, but I don't know if it was available in the states.

If the seller won't let you get it checked, run away - there is obviously something wrong with it.

Since it is your first car, it is not worth getting a lemon no matter how cheap the price tag as it will just sour the whole experience. Excuse the pun. :)

Is it a real 325is?

If it's your first car, you may want to check the classifieds elsewhere or surf parts houses to see if there are real 325iS parts available. From what I understand, there aren't that many still around.
