Hello.
I have an 87 325ic convertable and the power locks have a mind of there own. I have to fight and play games to get into the car when unlocking it with the key and than while driving the locks will randomly lock and uncock themselvs several times really fast. I think this a wiring issue but was wondering if anyone had any insight into this problem. Also the radio has that static sound from dirty or rusted POTs whe nturning the volume control. Don't know if these issues are related or not.

Thank you

open driver side door and undo connector betwwen door and car body, 99% sure your problem is rusted pins in that connector group. very common.

Thank you. I will check that out.

I also see you have the same exact car as me... you know any other issues I may want to look out for. Just replaecd TB, rear end, and a bunch of other stuff. Close to 200K on the car.

my has 207K and still going strong.

did you do timing belt ? very important, every 50,000 miles.

upgrade your ecu with a #173 or higher, you problaby have a # 153, they give rough idle and burn out.
173's are 1.3 motronic so it's gives more fault codes by pressing gas pedal 5 times with car off but key to on position. straight swap, plugs right in.

rear shock mounts, upgrade to e46 ones and purchase flat reinforcing metal plate, about $ 70 for both with all hardware.

besides that, usual 15,000 miles head valve adjustment. and a front strutbar will maker handle a lot better.

Thanks for all the info. I'll look into it. And espically thanks on the timing belt info.

I just got the car and right now am letting mom drive it to keep miles off the 03 Audi (already got 21K and about 9 month ownership)

As for the connectors in the doors. There was one slightly green pin on each connector(one on each door). I did not clean them yet tho. Just had time to take a peek. Being a convertable could ther be an issue behind the dash with corosion or wiring in general?? If your not sure thats ok. I hardly have time to look at or work on the car due to my job and other "little" project.

that green stuff is rust, 3 of my pins had turned into jelly", even in SoCal. unveliable !!!

underdash rust is possible but i doubt it.

let the top down and the sun shine in :)
