88 325is is up and running!!

All,

Thanks for all the help. I replaced a lot of parts to the tune of about 1100.00! However, I look at it as preventative maintenance! [:p]

I replaced the ECU, O2 sensor, Idle control valve, fuel injection lines, fuel regulator, vacume hoses, and cleaned the dickens out of the entire air intake system and throttle body. I also cleaned and check every conection I could find under the hood. I sprayed everything with electrical conection cleaner. I also cleaned and checked the crank case sensor!

Bottom Line: As a last effort, thanks to my brother (who now owns a 96, 318 ti) who told me to try a bottle or two of Lucas fuel injection cleaner. The first bottle I put in per the directions and the surging of the ilde and check engine light got much better but still not perfect (idle was at about 1000rpm). He recommended running it a little hot, by going to full bottle of cleaner to 1/2 tank of gas!

Well, its been two weeks now, no check engine lights [cheers] and no idle surging at all!!! [:D] Funny, 10 bucks could have fixed it! Oh well! She should run fine now for 60 or 70 thousand miles!! Gas milage is now back up to 25 city and 32 highway!!! [headbang]

When should I consider a valve job? Thanks for all the help. Just wanted you guys to know what cured my problem!

Nice information, glad your back on the road. Why consider a valve job, are you using oil? If you are not having symptoms of bad valves do not worry about it for now.

I doubt $10 would fixed it, there was probably something wrong with one or two of the things you replaced for a long time, and the car ran really crappy for a very long time which probably coated everything with carbon because it was running rich.
