hello everyone...i've just become the owner of an 88 520 lux......one owner from new(my neighbour) and its still on his drive for the moment and although i have driven it in the past
ive not had to think about m.p.g.,so what can i expect from it ?........i have, dare i say it a vectra
2.0 gls....i know what you are all thinking lol.....how will the consumption compare ?. the 520 has been well looked after from new but one thing i have noticed is the steering is a bit loose,
ive only owned one other car with this type of steering...worm and peg/recirculating ball or whatever bmw call it,and i'm hoping that given its history and the fact it mot's every year ok
it needs nothing more than the adjustment lock nut and screw ( look like they have not been touched) tinkering with so to speak.forgot to add the mileage....103,000 and until i get a look
at all the paper work i don't know what work has been carried out in the past. everything else
works fine apart from the digital dash clock, any ideas what this could be anyone ?.this has always been a shape ive loved and ive my fill with the modern cars like the vectra,so i'm looking forward to putting it on the road....any advice welcomed on any subjects concerning this model.........i know there is some interesting quirks as with all cars..........

kind regards
joe

good buy joe, and welcome to the forum! the 88 is pre E34 (my specialty) but consumption depends totally on how u drive these older cars. your car isn't as heavy as mine, nor does it make as much hp, u can expect to see anywhere from 20-25 on the highway and dare i say between 10 and 15 in the city. again this is based from my driving habits on a 91 535i manual car. if u have an auto... =[

hi......and thanks for your reply all the way from new jersey.....i did forget to add on my post
that it is indeed the e28 but i figured i would be in the company of experts who would know
what model it was on that year....this car is a 5 speed manual so i would think the m.p.g
would be better than the figures you quote....see over here fuel is over four dollars a gallon
so m.p.g is quite important,my neighbour has no complaints from it but he just fills it when its
under half a tank and does'nt keep a track on m.p.g....thanks again for your reply and i'm
looking forward to more advice.
