Hi, I got problems with my 91bmw318is.
The engine seems to misfire when accelerating .
This happens when the trottle is fully opened.
I replaced the spark plugs and wires..........still the same problem.
The TPS is working properly.Could it be the fuel filter?
Has anyone had this problem?
pls help me!!!!!!!! [headbang] [mad] [screwy] [screwy]

check the air filter, fuel filter, Air flow meter, maybe the timing, check for vacuum leaks, maybe put some injector cleaner in it, distributor cap/rotor.... thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

Crap, im having the same exact problem with my 91 318is. I thought it was my #4 ignition coil but i was wrong. If you find out, please let me know. It wasnt my fuel filter either. Originally thought it was bad gas, so i had the tank drained, and they replaced the fuel filter and i still have the problem.

M42's don't have a distributor. It sounds like a vacuum problem though.

My 91 318is had a random rare hiccup at crusing speeds where the car would feel like it shut off for a nano second. It was very rare and I was never able to duplicate the problem for a mechanic. But I never had a misfire. Lost a vacuum hose once and the car idled rough but at speed was ok. Have you checked your coils?

Did the M42 have the same kind of crank position sensor as the m20/m30? The one on the front of the motor, picking up a reading off the vibration dampener. If that's dirty it could cause the problem... but i'm not sure if the m42 had that.
