My '97 528i with 90,000 miles shudders slightly when I cold start the engine. After about a minute, the car sounds and runs fine. My mechanic thinks the fuel pump may be going although he didn't look at the car.
If this is the case, should I also replace the sending unit at the same time which went out two years ago? Are there any synergies (labor savings) by doing them at the same time? Could it be something else, like a head gasket?
I haven't replaced the sending unit because it is an expensive repair (mostly labor according to my mechanic). I just fill up the tank everytime and use the trip computer since I get about 100 miles for every quarter tank.
Thanks for your feedback.
