Hi. I'm new to this site, and to BMW's in general, and don't know much about cars. I saved for a long time to be able to buy my 97 528i. It's a gem. My dream car. I had heard that the windows occasionally give owners problems and that seems to be my predicament right now. The right rear window seemed to jam up and stop. You could hear the motor trying to work it up and down but couldn't. I pushed the window back up into the door frame and forgot about it. I have a job, but I'm not rich. I realized I couldn't continue to igore the problem this past weekend when the driver's window stopped working, though only momentarily. It didn't grind like the rear window. It just wouldn't respond to the button (I checked the window "lock" and it was off). After I turned off the car and tried again, it seemed to work okay.

Also, the car has about 78,000 miles on it and I understand from my maintenance book that I am about due for Inspection II. All I've done so far is change the oil every three thousand miles (had it one year) and replace about 15 tail lights (!!!) Is this Inspection II a big one money-wise? It looks like it might be. Does anyone live in the NY area who can advise me on how much I can expect to pay for these various things.

Mechanically, the car is a dream to drive. It's just these little things that are starting to get to me.

Thanks in advance.

Jon

What you should check! The felt inside the door ,somethime they push the glass in the wrong direction, and over the years, they are so hard to move back....some Silicone spray would help + moving the window up&down, some grease to the motor would be nice too! The motor,i know sounds stupid, remove the panel, and when the window is stuck, take a hammer an bang around the motor(do not brake the glass ) .....)if it start working, then your motor is ready to die. I think you have problem with the felt, but who knows! Good luck
