My daughter's 98 528i battery light came on while driving down the road. Also during that time she starting smelling rubber like a belt burning. That smell went away but the battery light stayed on. The battery is only 2 months old. Could the alternator be locking up from time to time allowing the belt to slide over the alternator pulley causing the burning rubber smell? The belt still looks good as far as I can tell. All of this is causing me to think the alternator is bad. Could there be another problem?
To make matters worse she left the door cracked and now the battery is completly dead. I see where to attach the positive jumper cable to, but where do you attach the negative jumper cable?
Please help!
