Hello all.

I have a few questions regarding my 04 E46 M3 Coupe, Imola Red, 19s:

1) Should I get the windows tinted? I looked into this and keep swaying back and forth. I think it looks great but what about resale value? (there are pics of my M3 in the showroom board)

2) I went on vacation and didn't drive my M3 for about 6 days. I came back and the battery was dead. I got it towed to the dealer, they replaced the battery, and the service guy told me if I was going to leave my car again for that long I had to get something to put in the cigarette lighter to keep my power. He said the computer in the M3 drains the battery?? Any thoughts??

Thanks!!

I just got my windows tinted with Huper Optik and it looks great. Definitely something to consider if you like the looks.

I've gone much longer than 6 days and never had any issues with my battery. In fact I've even left my lights on for an entire day at work before without any problems. [:I]

If you do store it for the winter, it's recommended that you disconnect the battery and make sure your oil is changed before driving it.

I agree with Tom, and I do like window tint just use a high quality tint like Tom did. I leave my roadster for months and never used a battery charger or disconnected it. I do now have a motorcycle battery charger (trickle) low amps and connect it once in awhile. Your battery should last a week without draining.

When I first bought my car I left the running lights on for about two hours while outside showing the car to my friend. The battery died. Now, the reason it died was that at the dealer it sat for a couple months and the battery died. Before I bought the car they charged it but it sat for a little while longer (about 1-2 weeks).

I called BMW roadside and they came to where I was and jumped the car. I have never had a problem since. I have left the car for over a week as well and no probs.

Beekbmwm3, you should have received BMW roadside assistance with your purchase. Did you buy it new, CPO, or third party? If my car breaks down, even if it is just out of gas, I call and they send someone to either fix (if small), jump, tow, or fill the tank enough to make it to the next gas station.

You should never (while under warranty) have to pay to have it towed or jumped. I don't know your warranty situation, but use the service if available to you especially on the M’s. It is a really really nice feature.

I've left my car for @ 2.5 weeks without toching it. Turned the key and it started right up. Check out Tom's Huper Optik tint, it looks very nice and also keeps the heat out really well. I'll be doing the same to mine before spring.

Tom,

Thanks for the advice. Where can you get the Huper Optik tint? I live in St. Louis, MO, anywhere around there? I think it looks great on your car, plus you didn't get it too dark, that's almost the exact look I want.

Thanks again

Thanks a lot for the advice...I did buy the car brand new, she only had 3 miles on her! I called roadside assist and they were extremely nice. They gave me the option to have it jumped or tow it to the dealer. I chose the later and it was free of charge. Thanks again! [:)]

Your service guy got it half right - there is an issue, but he should have known that there is a TSB on this problem. The lighter thing is a bunch of bull$hit.

There was an issue with the firmware in the Heating/Cooling electronics. Under certain circumstances, the electronics would stay in full power mode even when the key was turned off, running down the battery in 4 or 5 days.

Tell your dealer to check the following:

Ahh, good job. From the sound of your original post I thought you had it towed at your exspence. Roadside Assit is a very very nice feature.

Man, there is only one thing you should do with your M3 - drive it! :)
