About to replace clutch

I've talked to my mechanic and I think I want to (need to) install one better than stock but not "racing" quality. I don't want to shell out that kind of $ and I don't want monster calves from a super-stiff pedal. I figure with an upgrade, it will be a little more $ and some solid grab power, that in combo with my CDV (clutch delay valve)modification should make it last a good bit.

Any experience with different ranges of clutches and opinion? Thanks.

Well the clutch is being replaced today.

My mechanic is installing a Sachs performace clutch kit. Should be pretty sweet. The kit runs about $350 and with a few other parts (pilot bearing $18 and rear seal $52) and the flywheel service runs about $475-$500 for the whole thing (+ install labor). However, that upgraded clutch along with the modified CDV should give it a good lifespan.

I'll post a review once I have it on the road a bit and let you know how it performs.

Speaking of replacing cluthes, I'm at about 73K on my 3er. What's a good time (mileage-wise) to replace a clutch? Also, does anyone have any suggestions about a replacement?

Here's the review on the new clutch:

Actually the Sachs performance clutch is identical to the one that was in it. It is mfg by Luk and is just private labeled by Sachs. That probably explains why it is about the same price as the stock recommendation. Performance is great and I hope to make it last a while.

Wallie05...I would just drive your clutch until you see performace drop, slipping etc.
