So i have stock everything and original hoses, which i intend to change soon anyway, but my question goes a little like this.

I feel that my brakes arent stopping like i think they have the capability to. And im not sure what it is - maybe a combo of everything. So what is anything and everything you can suggest for brakes... short of big brakes and rotor replacement.

When in emergency situations in the past, i felt like the abs kicked in and made things worse. So can i disable them???
What pads are suggested because i *do* have brake fade after real heavy driving. (and im seriously tired of all the dust)

TIA!!

Don't slam on the brakes, use constant increasing pressure, even if it's fast.

When you slam on the brakes, they lock up so fast that the abs doenst do its job. Even if you do make the abs kick in, they are making you stop faster. The reason it doesnt feel like it's any better, is because it's constantly gripping and releasing -- so you feel the larger G-forces when it almost locks up, instead of the lesser G-forces when it's not quite as tight (this is during the cycle the abs goes through when you slam on the brakes).

I think stock stopping distance from 60 is 157 feet using abs... this isnt all that bad considering the stopping distance of a Mclaren F1 from 60 - 0 is 127 ft. The new M3 actually has better stopping distances than a Mclaren F1! Of course, I'd take a mclaren over an M3 any day (hell, the mclaren has the heart and soul of an M anyways [hihi])

I know what abs does, but i dont believe my brakes are up to full potential. Not to mention the car is no longer a daily driver, i will be track racing soon, so i need stopping power.

What pads do you guys recommend and does anyone know how to dissable ABS? (Just pull the fuse?) And is there anything else that can be done for more braking power?

Should probably replace the fluid with better brake fluid (completely flush the system) to start with, then begin by getting better calipers, pads, and rotors. Other than that, you can't do much without replacing your ABS unit -- which costs about $1200... eek!

Do this, take the knee bolster off, look up and you will see the big ABS "brain" there are two 10mm bolts on the sides of it, take them off and lower it. You could probably just unplug it and call it a weight mod too :) But what I did for the winter is there is a relay clipped to a small piece of metal just above where the abs brain is. This is the voltage overload realy, if you unplug it the obc will look at it and think it is blown and abs will not turn on.
