My ASC, ABS warning lights are on and also my speedometer is off, went to the dealer and after diagnosing the OBC the conclusion is a defective ABS control unit. The quoted price is 3600$ to replace and recode the unit. Now, according to the SA this is a common problem with E39 cars and since it is not safety related BMW is not recalling the vehicles involved; I find this a little disturbing, to say the least; has anyone in this forum had a similar experience, and if so, what has been the conclusion ? Did you complain to BMW directly or have yo found a different way to repair that unit ?
This is my second BMW but I am afraid is going to be the last one, just fed up ; great to drive, a bitch to maintain...
