Air Bag to MOMO

Just wondering if there's any problem with taking out a steering wheel with an airbag and putting a MOMO hub adapter for a MOMO steering wheel. It's a 5 minute job without an airbag, but are there any tricks to removing an airbag steering wheel without getting a facefull? Will I have an "Airbag" light on my dash that will be lit up all the time? (I've never owned an E30 with a bag, but I'll be going to look at one tomorrow that has one.)

Thanks,

Scott

My 91 318is had a driver's side airbag. If you install a Momo or other aftermarket steering wheel with no airbag you are going to get a constant SRS light displayed on your console. When removing the steering wheel of a car equipped with an airbag disconnect the power (battery) and remove the bag first.

and wait about 10 min after disconecting the battery before messing with it to be sure, they have some type of extra power on the airbag so that it can go off even if the car has no power

I don't know how it is up there, but I'm pretty sure if you have an accident and your insurance finds out you removed the airbag...they won't pay you a dime.

hmmm. good point about the insurance. I went to look at the car (that E30 wagon 4 wheel drive manual I posted the listing for a couple months ago) and it needs a lot of work. All the "euro" stuff is broken... I've made a list, but I don't really need to post it. The car looked good, but not $8900 worth of good... not for a 17 year old car.
