I was wondering what is the best aftermarket air intake for my 1991 325ix i dont care about noise just performance benifits and i would like it to include a heat shield. Also i still dont know which bentley service manual i should use for my car. Is it the regular e30 manual even though it doesnt include the ix or the 1991 model year... thanks for the help

Make one out of that plastic plumbing tubing, I know a kid at school that did it and got 15HP more from it :D. I know it sounds cheap and stuff but it works and I saw the Dyno run paper from before and after. Those metallic ones they sell are so friggin expensive and they don't even bring in cold air after they heat up from being in the engine (hello metal + heat = gets hot) so yeah make your own and then just put a shield were the intake is and I assure that you will get some nice grunt and power with it :).

A cool burst of air for the engine is like 90 degree air so that plastic will help you alot :D. If you paint it well enough who can tell its cheapo plastic? ;)

15 hp? Don't think so, that would have to be at least 160-170 degree cooler air than before, in addition to a MUCH more free-flowing air filter.

I highly doubt his engine bay was more than 200 degrees to begin with.

You don't think so try it out yourself your jaw will drop buddy ;).

like I said 90 degree air is a cool burst to a hot engine. Like I said I've seen it and like I said only way you will believe me if you do it urself.

PCV pipe, K&N (non oil) filter and your set to go.

I'll try to see if I can get some picks of cars that have fancy stuff on and instead of adding HP its taken off HP [:D]

My car came with a K&N Cone filter. Gas mileage and power went up drastically when I replaced it with the stock air box and a Mann air filter. Why would a CAI, designed by some fool who is more concerned about how cool it looks rather than its functionality... increase horsepower? They sound better, but rarely if EVER increase horsepower, especially in modern cars.

Also take in to consideration most new cars have a cold air intake already (All bmw's do...)

I'd be very happy to see the dyno ticket.

Its not hard to get that engine bay to 200 degrees, especially on a hot summer day. get ahold of one of those infared thermometers and go drive around for a while and pop ure hood and start pointing it at stuff. you would be suprised.

Yep I am and I'm not a parts thrower like someone (cough) (cough)

I think you should go back to school, something called "diagnosis" [thumb]
Why would I go to school for cars? It's a hobby, what, you think i'm going to school for automotive stuff? Hahaha

You're right a parts thrower. I just threw that clutch in my e30 on jackstands in a driveway in winter. [cheers] BTW if you're really going for automotive, you really do throw some stuff out of your ass now and then that really makes no sense.

Poboyis, the thing is...that's if you can keep the air from outside that same temperature as it passes through the iron intake plenium, and if your engine management system is 100% efficient. I'm not saying there is NO gain, but there is usually no more than a 2 - 4 USEABLE HP gain. Forced induction is another matter.

You know you look more stupid than me right now... you still haven't posted these dyno slips.

When you do and I'm proven wrong, I'll admit that I look stupid...but until then...
