I recently changed my timming belt on my 84' 323i, when I changed it it was a tooth out. after I ajusted it and got the timming sorted out good I noticed that there was a metal on metal noise so I took off the roccer cover and noticed that inlet valve on the third cylinder was not closing all the way, I found out that the sound was the roccer arm was tapping on the valve spring. I belive that the valve has been dinted so it will not close all the way. would this be the problem and how hard would it be to fix, if not what other things could cause the inlet valve not to be closing properly, is the car still driveable with the problem. I hate seeing it not in a driveable state so if you could help it would be great, thanks .

Measure the gap and compare it to specified specs.
If its way off, it might be time for a cyl. head rebuild or replacement.
Whenever there is metal on metal, when not supposed to be, you can expect problems.

Now, if the valves are tapping, 'tap tap', that is normal. Just old age setting in.
Get them adjusted.

If no luck, take to a certified BMW shop.
