I'm 6'2 and a bit over 230lbs and I fit comfortably in a e36 coupe. I've driven an e39 with no problem what so ever. The e39 5 series has too much room for me; I have to move the seat up.

good luck

I'm 6'4", 250lbs, and I fit like a champ in my E34... I feel like a king on my throne! (My fit in the E30 is a whole other story.) The one thing I don't like about my fit is that the steering wheel is quite large... when I'm cruising on the highway and I want to rest my left leg, there is not a lot of room to fit my leg between the door and the steering wheel. However, as far as being able to stretch my legs out straight, it's beautiful! I've put a MOMO steering wheel with a smaller diameter on my E30 just so I can get into it without banging my knee, and I suppose you could do the same with the E34, exept that you'd be doing away with the airbag.

Over all, I'm happy with the way I fit in the E34.

Be Careful of Sport seats

The only complaint I have on this issue is if you have sport seats. They're great for hugging you around curves, but they make it hard for big guys to get in and out. And with all the adjustments on the sport seat, it seems to lack lumbar support. Anyone else? If your E34 has the regular BMW seats, you'll be fine. I can get in and out of my E36 convertible easier than I can the E34 with sport seats. But in a 540 with a 6-speed, the sport seats are probably a good idea.

the reason i asked was that i sat in a '98 528 and it was difficult to get out of. i was hoping the e34 might be a bit roomier, since i've decided that that's the only body i'm interested in.

thanks

My E34 doesn't have sport seats, but my E30 does, and combined with the higher door sills (re-enforcement for the cabrio) I look like a fool getting out of the sport seats, especially having no roof to pull myself out with. I'm fine with the regular seats in my E34 though. Obviously, the best thing you can do is go find one and sit in it, and hope for the best. I've never sat in a E39, so I couldn't compare the two.
