Any truth to this statement?

I finally went and test drove a few vehicles. I really wanted to test drive the new C6 vette but nobody locally had any demos. I did test drive the Lotus Elise which was a very nice ride, but the car is more a toy than anything else. I also test drove a brand spanking new '04 M3 which I absolutely loved.

I spoke with the salesman who was actually the most product-knowledgable saleseman I've ever talked with. A real car guy unlike many of the dopes out there (I went to the Chevy dealership and the dumbass didn't know what a C6 was, duh). Anyway, I mentioned I might wait until late '05 to get the '06 M3 with the V-8 and 400 hp motor. He said that he didn't even think there would be an '06 M3 just like there was no '04 M5. Now, I know its his job to get me to buy right now; but, he had already proven himself quite knowledgable and I can tangibly see with the lack of an M5 this year that BMW doesn't necessarily always make an M-car the first year of an updated model.

Does anybody know if there really will be an '06 M3 and if so, will it be the 400 hp V-8 I've seen talked about on this board?

Thanks

Honestly, he knows as much as we do - There is ALWAYS someone in a company who has access to information, and will share it. I haven't seen anything yet, but who knows?

It does sound like something they might do - introduct the new 3 series before the new m3.

The new 3-series will probably be out for a good year before the new M3 will come out. I think you should lease a new 04 M3 leftover right now for 3 years and then get the new M3 when at the end of that lease.

Ahhh, but here is the catch...

I am American military. When we go overseas we get the opportunity to get new BMWs at a reduced price compared to what most folks have to pay. Right now, a new M3 would run me about $5k below sticker. A steal? No, but certainly better than paying list or higher. Since I'll only be in GE for 3 years I certainly couldn't lease an M3 stateside since they'd never let me take it overseas. What I was considering was buying a used German-spec M3 while in Germany and driving it while I'm there and then ordering a new M3 when I leave. That would probably work out pretty well since I'm not supposed to leave until November of '07.

I may be off on this, but if BMW's tradition holds true there probably won't be a '06 M3. I think you may be able to order one late '06 as a '07 model.

Tom you are on key, I spoke with the Niederlassung (a BMW dealership owned by BMW...not a private dealership) here in Mainz and he said that the new V-8 M3 is not due out until mid to late 07. The M5 production was halted do to some serious tranny problems, but is due to be resumed with in the next 3 months so this means delivery dates of 3rd quarter 05 or later. This is not gold, but I trust the dealership that is owned by BMW and not some private junkie.

Wait a second, you're proud to have the privilege of giving your local dealer an interest free loan for an entire year and committing another $50k to them? That's ridiculous. No car is worth that. Be happy with that G35, its a sweet ride. When the V8 M3s finally do come around there will be enough for all by the 2nd year.

I hate buying first year stuff, you always get to beta test the vehicle for the company. **** that. I'd rather buy a few years down the production road.
