sounds like a conflict of interest to me, although I would love either a Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5 16V EvoII, or *ahem" a C63. Has anyone ever really had reliability problems with their BMW?[rolleyes]

Mercedes Benzes from the early 1980's thru about 1995 are the true definition of reliable and long lasting. Mercedes had a very, very dark period from the late 1990's thru about 2006. BMW, IMO, was very behind Mercedes in regards to reliability until the mid 1990's, and then I think BMW became very reliable.
My last 3 new BMWs (2006-2008) have pretty much sucked. Out of the 32 brands sold in the USA, JD Powers ranked BMW #21 and Mercedes #4. A few years ago though, Mercedes was #32. Ouch. BMW always makes somewhat better handling cars, and their inline 6 cylinder engines are awesome, but in my experience, Mercedes nowadays is more reliable than BMW.

appreciate the feedback, reason (again) i asked, more specifically is that i have a 1990 mercedes and a 1988 bmw and they are diametrically opposed, although the same. as if they intentionally would not do the same things the same way..although they do....the mercedes is so stately and calm while the bmw is a little hound dog...but i understand the bmw better and am just learning about the mercedes...the mb is a monster but giving me trouble over an idle issue...but only had him a year and he was kill throughout a very bad winter here. the bmw i've had for 9 years and reflecting back he has had alot of tlc so i can't compare..hence the question...thanks for insight
