Anybody replace the air filter in their X3?

I was thinking of changing the stock air filter that came with my X3 with a K&N air filter but I wanted to know if someone has already done this (with any brand of air filter) and if so has it changed the performance on the engine some what.

I haven't replaced one, but typically with car air filters, you have the option of safely going with a K&N air filter. You might get a bit of a deeper tone at higher rpm's when the air filter is bringing in more air than normal, but that's good for a 1 or 2 horsepower gain, at MOST.

I removed the stock airbox & installed a cone K & N filter right off of the air flow meter. It may slightly increase throttle response. Sounds kinda cool. It needs to be ran down lower to get cold air so it works properly-I know, its only a 2.5 but hey I need all the help I can get!

I know the filter will not increase performance dramatically but I was just wondering if replacing the air filter will improve gas mileage.
