i saw X3 this weekend and had a BLAST!! my suggestion is for people to ignore the critical reviews, forget the lofty expectations, and just go see it with an open mind, and you'll have a great time. just remember to stay til the VERY end- ie wait until after all the credits are done, because there is an extra scene. =)
without giving away anything, X3 was fast-paced, intense, emotional, and loaded w/ cool special effects, action sequences, an exciting story-line, and enjoyable characters. the movie was incredibly well-balanced and never really dragged. you get completely drawn into this make believe sci-fi world & it's story & characters and hope that you don't run out of popcorn before the movie ends. even the ending has some nice twists that keep you wanting more.
the main reason X3 has come under criticism is because the original brainchild (writer/ director) behind the X-men movies, brian singer, didn't work on X3 from start to finish. due to creative differences with the studio etc., he left early and went to go work on the new Superman movie. and, brett ratner was brought in to finish the film. although bret ratner had some success with the rush hour films, objectively-speaking, he's relatively inexperienced and has never really completed any films of this genre or scale. rush hour was a tepid, formulamatic hollywood movie that just happened to be a box office hit for many coincidental and silly reasons- and NOT because bret ratner is a great director by any means.
as far as the criticisms go, i've heard most of them and understand the points of view of some of the die-hard fans. yes, there are some questionable decisions made as to why and how certain scenes or sequences were placed, or missing for that matter, in this film. but, all i can say is that ultimately the mark of a good movie is whether it tells the story in a way that's exciting, keeps your attention, and is entertaining. and, in X3, i feel all the above have been met. so knit-picking apart minor details about this and that and then saying the movie sucked seems rather juvenile to me. those minor details will all probably show up in the deleted scenes in the dvd. but, as-is, the movie was a thought-provoking, exciting ball of fun.
