Mine two lighted windows switches are burnt out. Anyone ever tried taking one apart and replace the light? I took a look at the switch one day and it may come apart somehow. I was thinking of replacing the lights with an LED light.

ive replaced a few entire switches but never just the light, the switches alone arent that high priced that even replacing the whole switch wouldnt be a big deal

And while you are at it, if you are a dab-hand with a slodering iron, you could install new E36 switches (the wiring harness needs modification to fit into an E30) which are far superior switches.

Just browsing back here, but do you know of a write up on doing this? I think that would be pretty cool. I hate these e30 switches they keep getting messed up

Are the E36 switches the same size? Thats a great idea. I am pretty good with a soldering iron so what the hell, I will try this out.

Not quite the same size, and they are one piece, so you have to do some minor cutting with a stanley knife (what I think you americans call an exacto knife???) Anyway - there is a write up, but the link seems to have died. i saved it as pdf on my home PC, so I'll try and remember to find it and post it up. The trick is to remember to get the white-based (i.e. lighted) switches, and the ones with the flat bezel frame as the curved ones won't sit nicely on your flat e30 console. When you see the curved ones you will know what I mean.

Anyway, I'll find the write up and post here.

It was orginally linked in a thread on www.r3vlimited.com in the Appearance>interior forum.
