Hey people.

I have had two e30's with this problem. The drivers side window goes about 6 inches down then stops. I have to open the door about half way, then the window will make a clunk sound and drop like a half inch and continue to roll down when i hit the button.

I have taken apart the door panel before and not figured it out. I do know if I shut the door hard it will cause the window problem. If I shut it softly it works fine.

The drivers door on my car has been wrecked before, not sure if it was just repaired or replaced. Happened before I owned the car, and it looks like they did a good job fixing it.... no wavey bondo marks or paint runs.

Later, Aaron

It should just be a few cheap plastic "clips" that hold the window onto the regulator. Your parts guy should know what you're asking for - though i'm sure someone else here might have a part number for you (i never had to take my doors apart)

Yeah, the window has come off the track - works if it goes perfectly straight, but slamming the door knocks it slightly off track and so won't go straight. as the track mooves down it eventually pulls the window with enough force to dislodge it. Fix as per above post.
