Anyone have problems with pressure plates?

I have a bud of mine that wanted me to post this....

DETAILS; '98 e36 M3 with chip and aluminum flywheel. Stock clutch package.

Problem; This setup has eaten, (destroyed), 2 pressure plates in two months. The parts were installed according to the flywheel's manufacturer directions, and the clutch package installed by BMW's directions, following the torque settings. No known abuse of RPMs or unjustified burnouts.

Has anyone had or heard about a situation such as this? If so, what was done to correct it?

TIA!

I'm guessing it's due to the aluminum flywheel (although I don't really understand how). Has your friend gone back to the stock flywheel to see if that truly is the cause?

Well, it has both of us rather at a loss of words![screwy]

This has happened once with the aluminum flywheel and once with the factory flywheel. I keep telling him that he's just plain over driving the car, (or pressure plate in this instance).

The only thing that I can come up with is to take the flywheel and clutch assembly to a speed shop and have it dynamically balanced with everything bolted up. Maybe there is a slight harmonic vibration that is causing this. [idea]
