I don't have any experience with that particular Pirelli brand, but I have had a couple sets of Pirelli tires (P7's and P700's) in the past. The impression I have about Pirelli is that their tires work relatively well in the rainy/slippery condition than other performance-oriented tires. I also think they're noisier, though. Do they have the Michelin Pilot Sports in your size?

tire prefs

i've had pirellis on my last M3 and they were good... but that's about it... just good.

personally, a little overpriced.. noisier and wore really fast. i switched back to michelin pilot sports...

on my current M3, i have continental contisport for my winter rims the standard OEM flat silver...

my spring/summer config will be back to the chromes with new set of mich pilot sports... i personally love them.. had them on my older 325 and 328 and i've been happy with them the whole time... great stick, good even wear.. durable enough (mileage wise) and not too unreasonable price wise.

I all depends on what your doing with your car... if you want to just have them on there to go fast and not worry about the speed and your tires at the same time.. get what ever matches the speed you wish... if your in for handeling... I'd go for Kumhos... (I've been through some autox's with a few sets and the side wall tracktion and flex is almost down right perfect.. ) If you want something that is gonne feel right and give you good tracktion... go with the P-zero's..

Go with the Pirelli P-zero, I have them on my Audi and it performs better than the Michelins on my M3 in wet conditions.

How about the noise level? Like I said, I felt the Pirelli tires to be a bit noisier than the Michelins in general. I'm wondering if it's the same for the P-Zero's?

I have the new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and hands down the best performance tire, dry or wet. I know it's a bold statement, but after driving a few hundred miles on them I will definitely buy them again. I'm interested to see how they wear, only time will tell. Great tire and very very quiet.

If only the PS2 were available in my front tire size (225/45R18)... [:(!]

The Tire Rack carries your size 225/45 R18 for $241 ea and 225/40 R18 for $205.

I checked the site. They do have 225/40R18, but not 45R18, unless I am missing something. I ran a search on my specific car (2004 M3 Coupe w/ 18-inch rims), too. The only Michelins they have are the regular Pilot Sports. :(
