blowing brake lights

Hey All,

About three days ago I got the brake light warining light on the dash of my 94 540i. I bought replacements from Kragen and replaced the passenger side light...all was well...then the very next day it blew again. I replaced it with the second new light and then it blew that same day.

I read some post a long time ago about some 'special bmw voltage' that required OEM lights. Is there any truth to that? Or, is this going to be the beginning of the electrical gremlins with tail and brake lights I've read about?

Also, my horn stopped working one day. Checked the fuse and it's not the issue. Anyone else had this happen?

I noticed on the driver's side tail light that I have to turn the insert to just the right position for the connection to make contact but all the wiggling in the world isn't fixing my issue with the passenger tail light.

What gives? I love this car and everything else is working fine...so far these lights issues are the only ones.

Thanks for your advice,
J

As for the brake lights, I did replace my tail lights with ones from Walmart.
A few days and they blew. And another one...same fate.
So I got them from the dealer...problem solved.
Dunno if it's coincidence, but I will go OEM in future to save time and inconvenience.
