BMW 325e stalls

I have a 1986 325e, automatic with 120,000 miles that stalls only when warmed-up and for the most part at idle or accelerating at low rpm from a stop. Problem gets worse on a hot day or if the car is running warm-(stop and go up hill). I can usually restart. Sometimes with a lot of cranking and throttle. It has the same trouble starting if warm after recently turned off. It acts a bit like an older manually choked vehicle with the choke left on. However, my mechanic says that the plugs show a lean burn. He replaced the fuel pump relay- had no affect. It runs well at freeway speeds, though recently, for the first time it cut in and out while accelerating onto the freeway. It ran well above about 50 mph. Problem seems to be getting worse. The previous owner said it behaved similarly at about 70,000 miles. She replaced a lot of expensive stuff and finally an inexpensive computer chip did the trick. Unfortunately she doesn't remember what it was. The records show that around then she replaced:
AF meter
Computer
O2 sensor.

Do you know what the spark plugs are like?
What about your fuel and air filter?
I'd start out with easy things before getting straight into replacing that expensive o2 sensor.

Reply asap!

If it's the spark plugs you'd definately hear a missfire.... could be a clogged cat. I dunno... it sounds like something computer/electrical. Ignition coil? I doubt it would be the AF or O2 sensors.
