Hi! My name is Brittany. I am a poor student who's 1987 Bmw 325i was in flood water up to the bumper...it was pushed out of the water in about 10 minutes. I have driven since, but now it has an idle problem where the rpm is racing up and down. Then when I'm a stop and slowly speed up it studders about three times and then speeds up. Almost like it can't change gears properly? I have unplugged and replugged everything! I even put fuel cleaner in the gas tank and filled it up with 10% ethenal gas....sorrry can't spell. What and where could the problem be. If anyone can help me God bless you and I can not thank you enough. [bigcry]

Sounds like it's electrical. Youshould go through all your electrical connections with some of that water-repelling electrical lubricant spray (in NZ it is sold under the brand name CRC, but it is similar to a WD-40 type product (not WD-40 though).

That shudder you are feeling is called a miss. Your car is missing under load which points to fuel starvation or electrical problems. The "hunting" idle could also be electrical related or it may be a vacuum leak somewhere. Since the car has been wet - my first guess is electrical.

I have the same problem but only when I first start mine(86'325) then it calms down after the temp warms up a little ...I'm not sure because I have an electrical prob. but I've been told that it's the "lack of fuel"(changed both pumps, but notthe filters..yet)...the thermostat for the engine(?)...air fuel idle adjust...and one person says that it might be the air intake where there is a flap inside that is sticking.....I've only just got back into working on cars so I'm not sure about alot and since I'm doing some other projects on this car i won't be getting to this problem for at least 2 months...I'll let you know if I hear of anything. PS...when it first starrted to rev-up on it's own it did it while i was driving ...now just when i start it.
