BMW E60 Mass Air Forward Sensor Disconnect

I purchased a new high flow air filter on ebay that the seller stated would work perfectly with my 2006 BMW 525i. It replaces my existing air box with a K&N style cone filter. So I get the thing and as I had feared there is no where to mount my forward mass air sensor that is attached to my current air box housing. So I wrote a message back to the turkey that sold it to me and he says that all I must do is disconnect that forward sensor (leave it unplugged because I do not need it), disconnect my battery for 30 minutes and my car will be as happy as a clam. Does anyone know if I will have any ill effects from disconnecting that sensor permanently? Also, does disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes actually make a difference? He stated that the disconnect will reset the computer and force the mass air to recalibrate itself to adjust to the higher air flow volume? Sounds like garbage but I have no idea how the computer is setup to work. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Do you mean the MAF? That's the Mass Airflow Sensor.
I'm no technician...but I would think without the MAF sensor, that would screw the whole system up!? Besides, I'm pretty sure that will trigger a Check Engine Light.

I believe you've been misled by this turkey.
