my friend has a 300zx and the last project he did was a grounding job. its a good idea to ground your engine bay to the chasis for a stronger electric current. your headlights will be brighter and the response of throttle should be slightly better. there are many points on the engine where there could be better grounding. the cost is under 20 dollars. just some thicker gauge wires and connectors. ill try to find more info from my friend. im waiting for the summer to do this mod.

Yeah, the battery's in the trunk on my 89 325is, but i thought that it originally was in the engine bay and the previous owner had moved it there, did they really come with batterys in the trunk from the factory?

ya, they did do that factory on the 89. i'm not sure about 90-91, however. i also have no idea why they would put them in the back. the only thing i can see is that it leaves a really convinient platform for tools, etc under the hood, and allows for easy access for setting up a subwoofer.

it is in the trunk for the 91's as well. They put it in the back because temperature has a big effect on batteries. Constant heating and cooling of a battery from the engine will decrease its lifetime and performance. There's the whole weight allocation thing too but i think it's BS because it is not that much weight and you have to put in an extra think cable all the way to the trunk and that is heavy.

I was told it's to help keep the 50/50 weight distribution. I don't think it's BS, BMW really boasts about this feat of engineering design.

c'mon now...not "all." does yours? cuz most of your year and older don't
ALL BMW's EVER made since the 2002 ATLEAST... have the battery in the trunk. No exceptions what so ever. It's a design they used becuase it helps with weight distribution (the battery has always been on the opposite 'corner' from the driver.)

that's not true. my neighbor has a 325 convertible 1988 and the battery isn't in the back. my friend has an e36 328i 1997 and his isn't in the back. another friend has an e28 528 and his isn't in the back. well those are the only bimmers that my friends have that i have looked under the hoods of. i just asked frolf though, and he said that his e36 is in the back....hmmm

well, i asked "the pros" and this is what they said.

no, it depends on the model
e30 cabs have bat in front
e28 has front battery
e30 325i/s trunk battery
e30 (84-85)318i front

That makes sense, the e30 cabrio had it in the front to give you some trunk space, the e28 had it in the front since it had a lot of room up there.
