Brake light question

Hello.

My '87 325 started doing something wierd the other day. The overhead check panel says I have a brake light out but they both work. So I am figuring there is a wire loose or the check panel is messed up. Anyone ever had this problem? Later.

i suppose if its an intermittent thing - ive had it plenty as its bad connections at the brake light housing terminals and bulbs.
clean all contacts and make sure everything plugs in tightly.

Is this problem only when you first turn the car on and goes away when you step on the brake? Or, does this light stay lit after the car has been on a while and the brake pedal depressed?

If it is on only when you first start the car and goes away once you step on the pedal...that's normal and is supposed to do that.

it does that to check to make sure your brake switch works. The light lights up until the first time you put on the brake. Usually people start the car with the brake engaged and therefore never see the light.

I had the same problem and indeed there was a bad connection on the light socket and although the light worked it was sending a "light out" signal.Good luck

I figured it out. This is a good one too(for you guys, not me).

Since this '87 325 is the newest vehicle that I have besides my KTM dirt bike it has a new invention that I didnt even really think about. It has a center brake light . So yea, had a guy at the gas station watch it as I hit the brake and it was burnt out. Alright, scored myself an Idiot point. Later
