Horrors! My cup holders in the front console broke. Has anyone had them replaced - or can I get the part and fix myself? Thanks for any help.
i'm sure BMW has or can get the part. I'm not sure about installation.

i can't believe they've left the same design for 7 years. mine are broken also. they are in the dumbest place.

I absoultely hate the e39 cupholders... How can such great engineers fail at designing something like this?? I had a bad incident where I had a full 12 oz soft drink open and I took off pretty quick and it landed in my pass seat and poured all down into my rear floorboard before I could get to the can. I know it's my fault but I still would like to have seen a better designed cup holder!

You can get the part, it is about $40, you literally yank the old one out and it will break one or both retention snaps that are plastic, the new one slides in very easily...after you do this don't use the cup holder, as I'm sure you realize it is useless.

Well, it's illegal to drink and drive anyways. [;)]

Even to this day, Germans do not consider eating or drinking a logical activity in the car. Especially back in the 90's. They are just now caving to the requests of accomodating this but mostly in the US. Just like they are making a stick M5 for the US market.
