I've been reading the faqs and guides on the board and they have convinced me to get a buffer/polisher ? but which one ?
One of the faqs recommends the porter cable 7336 and says go to CMA ( classic motoring accessories ) but I only see the 7442 model that the faq says has a 5 in counterweight instead of the recommended 6in weight. Napa also has a Dewault buffer . Does anybody have recommended sites for good products and prices.

which model do you have ? would I be safe with a 7442 from porter cable ? I'm definately a newbie when it comes to buffers .Thanks in adv. for any help..

The 7336 and 7424 are the same machines. The difference is the "accessory package".

For a newbie all the way up to a Pro, the polisher you mentioned works great for application and light paint correction.

The "PC" is an orbital and is what you will want to get. You do NOT want a rotary buffer to start with, as there is a great chance of burning through the paint. The "PC" is foolproof and is a great detailing tool. I have one and I also have a rotary. 95% of the time I reach for the "PC", unless there is major paint correction to be made.

If you are interested in a "package deal" with counterweight, backing pad and polisher, email me and I will help you out and get you a deal. I am a forum sponsor and that is one of the items I will be carrying on a regular basis.

If it is a "PC"..., looks like you have a buyer ( either jonnyz16 or me..., I can always use another:)

If it is a cheapo brand..., I agree..., waste of money.
Like anything else..., you get what you pay for:)

I got a PC 7424 this Christmas and recently started using it. I doubt anything could be any easier for applying wax and polish. Unfortunately, I got the one that only came with a single white pad permanently attached to the backing plate, so I ordered a velcro backing plate and extra pads once I knew what I was doing. Autogeek and Classic Motoring Accessories are also good suppliers for these products if Wayne can't accomodate. (sorry, I heard about them before you joined the site, but if you have better prices......... [:D] )

Anyway, since I am new at this I was amazed at how easy the PC was to use.

Good info DRWWE!

That is something to "watch out" for..., if ordering from anyone, you want to make sure you are getting the "package" you need. I always let my customers know before purchasing what is available and what is needed.
That is part of our "customer first program"..., doing our best to make sure you get what you need with your order and also letting you know what is available so you do not wind up purchasing stuff you do not need just to make a sale:) (nothing worse than having to pay for two shipping costs)

My passion is detailing and helping people acchieve a great looking finish...,
Whether they buy from me or not..., it's about the "shine" :)

I am interested in the "package deal" P/C...

My passion is detailing as well...

When I get home in April I will have my hands full keeping 3 BMW's in 'tip/top' shape.

I will fire-off an E-mail to you later tonight or this weekend. I am also interested in
the p21s waxes, clay bars & lubricants and your micro-towels.

Feel free to E-mail me and looking forward in doing business.

Dewalt makes great buffers. Last forever. Variable speed, plus a lock for the trigger to keep from getting a sore finger. You do have to be careful though, buring paint if very easy to do if you havent been traind right.

I agree Dewalt makes a great "buffer", however, if I am not mistaken, the question was about a R.O. polisher.
Just didn't want anyone to get confused between the two machines..., very different personalities:)
