I would be buying the Cadilac CTS-V.

According to the magazines I have been reading...
1) 400 HP
2) 390 lb-ft TQ
3) Six speed manual
4) Limited slip differential
5) Brembo disc brakes
6) Tower brace
7) Est. 0-60 = 4.7 seconds
8) Est. 1/4 mile in low 13s
9) front brake ducts
10) on board computer gives tire pressure information and lateral g readings
11) ran laps at Nordscheife (northern loop of Nurburgring)quicker than M3 or M5(E9)
12) Has cup holders
13) Room to tune
14) 50+K

It won't be faster than the M5 for much longer though.
What are the numbers for the new M5?

Also, with the difference in price tags, I am sure you can do some real tuning on that vette engine.

Ok............ITS A FREAKING CADI.........Cheap built no quality AMERICAN comapany trying to compete in a luxery PERFORMANCE sedan market that is light years ahead of it. My pops has had 4 cadi's ....everyone of them a freaking headache, Buicks and Lincolns also. ALL WORTHLESS[bash]

And where did you get the stats that it beat out the M5?[screwy] 400hp vs. 500 hp Cadi should just stay in the market they were in......Big deliberate cars that eat tons of gas and ride like they are on clouds. You don't see BMW trying to tap into that market do you? 7series is still a performance oriented automobile. People who want a performance automobile are not going to want a cadillac. Its like trying to compare Harley Davidson and Ducatti...there is no comarison and there never will be. If you want a performance bike are you going to think about the Harley V twin? or the Ducatti 996?

BUY THE BIMMER

Ok, I don't like Cadys, I love Cadillacs. But honestly what the hell does Cady know about performance?? They may have a ton of power, brembo brakes and what not but my concern is the suspension set up. Plus Cady really does not build a high performance car so they may have some bugs to work out with this new vehicle line. What is beautiful is where can you find a car with 400hp for about 50k?? Not in any Benz or BMW salesroom, I know that! Good Luck!

We are not talking about your pops cadi. We are talking about one that is coming out later this year.

I posted that it beat the E(3)9 M5. I don't know the performance numbers for the new M5.

I welcome the CTS-V, what a great car for the price...kinda like a vette.

50k is still alot of money, but you are right where else could you buy such a vehicle for that money....ONLY IN AMERICA. Skimping on quality somewhere I think. This is just my opinion.......this is a BMW forum so naturally I am going to defend Bimmer. I looked at the Cadillac CTS after Bad Boys 2 came out. Looks like a nice ride...but I personnaly will not buy a first run line of "performance" automobile until it has been time tested and they do something with that very un-friendly interior.

I'm not saying that it is a bad car but deep down it is just a GM product. GM can not design the interior of their cars even if their life depended on it. What I like the most is the amount of power the car puts out for that price. It is awesome!! Good Luck to anyone who is looking to purchase one!

7) Est. 0-60 = 4.7 seconds
------------

Nobody can get the Caddy CTS-V to do btter than a 5.2 0-60. Only GM lays claim to a 4.6-4.7, EVERY SINGLE Magazine test has been in the low 5's. It s decent car though especially for a GM.

The new M5 may or may not be under 5.0 0-60. time will tell ??

for sure the m5 will not be $50k, it might price around probably $80k and more. i love m5's but my wallet cant afford to love it. id like to see the two cars battle it out on the track. oh man! im sure the m5 will take the turns so nice. both v8 so both will guzzle gas. the ballte should be dinan m5 vs lingenfelter cadilac. goodluck man. check this out:

Check out C&D
Given it is the old M5

I’m happy that an American car company is trying to tap into a new market. BMW is doing the same thing with their “affordable” cars. It may not be something Cadillac has mastered right now but as I recall BMW didn’t start out by making cars. IMO success results from failure, so that you know what not to do the next time. It also keeps the race for the finest vehicle on the last lap, where everyone is doing their best to win.

I like the speed, handling, refinement and quality characteristics of BMW. Those are the reasons I will never drive another type of car. Some may be faster, others more luxurious and a few may even have better handling, but IMO none have the superb combination of all of them. Although I have to admit, some Mercedes vehicles aren’t the “boats” that the used to be.

You've gotta be kidding me, the CTS-V is a piece of shit. Don't even consider getting a Cadillac over any BMW, especially the new 545i. Car & Driver test drove the new 545i w/ a manual transmission and they say that it's the best manual they've ever tested before. The gearbox is incredibly smooth and perfectly tuned to the car's capabilities.

You simply can't compare a Cadillac to a BMW.

Read my post above. Those are some of the numbers. I would get the CTS-V over the 545i. It all depends on what you are looking for. I prefer its performance at a the reported cheaper price.

I see what you mean, but I've heard horrible things about it overall, mostly quality and performance issues. Cadillac claims a 4.7 0-60, I've heard that this time is absolutely impossible without wheel-hop. I think that C/D observed a 5.2 0-60 at best, while still experiencing some wheel-hop. As I've learned, I'm pretty sure that this eventually destroys your differential. Even if it could pull it off, anybody can go fast in a straight line. In today's auto world numbers barely mean anything anymore. I’m absolutely positive that the Cadillac would get its ass handed to it on the track by an M5. Also, ride quality and handling is probably a lot better in the 545i than the Cadillac. Overall if I had to choose between an M5/545i and a Cadillac CTS-V, I’d go for the BMWs, Cadillac simply just isn't ready to compete with the Germans. Also, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't the Cadillac use a push-rod engine? Give me a break, $50,000+ and they hand you an engine from the 1960s? F*ck that.

I dunno. the caddy has some strong points, but I have heard some horrible tihngs about the LS6 and oil consumption... some even needing new piston rings after only like 20,000 miles...

This car looks good on paper...

As of right now... the suspension needs massive tuning, the OBC needs some work as I have been told, and well... GM is rushing this one out...

Quality problems are coming... real soon I think.
