Can I replace the headlight lenses only???

The lenses on 1997 528i are oxidized and one is cracked. I saw a Hella part that is the lens only, no light box/fixture. The body shop told me I need a new light assembly.

Do I need a new assembly or a new body shop?!

Thanks for your time.

It is not too bad yet, but I assume it will get more cloudy over time. Moisture is collecting inside the cracked lense.

I saw a Hella lens cover. Are these parts decent quality?

Thanks for your reply

Hella is pretty much the best of the best. Call your local dealer parts department and ask them, they might know.

Thanks for the feedback. I did a test: I bought a used OEM assembly for the cracked lense for $60 and I bought a hella lens cover for the one that was oxidized for $18.

The BMW bodyshop in San Rafael preferred not to install lens only because he said you can compromise the seal. He cleaned the oxidation off with a solvent. No problem, only $18 dollars out for the lens.

The assembly was installed and I got out the door for $85 in labor and $78 in parts. The headlights look sooooo much better.
